Beautiful birthday earrings

Last week, I was spoiled for my 30th birthday by everyone in my life, but especially so by my wonderful husband. I asked for that perennial jewellery staple, a pair of diamond stud earrings (as they never date and go with everything), and Ben bought me a stunning pair from our favourite jeweller, Jan Logan. I have been wearing them non-stop! However, he further surprised me on my birthday morning by treating me to another pair of Jan Logan earrings I had sighted when we purchased the diamonds.

I have never seen a gemstone like the one in these earrings. Called phosphosiderite, the gem can be found in a myriad of colours (from reds to oranges to blues) but most rarely, in lavender. I LOVE amethyst but phosphosiderite is opaque, with slight striations throughout. The day I first sighted them, I ran an internet search to find more information about the stone. I’m not really one for believing in the power of crystals, but when I read this from Healing Crystals For You, I felt like the inexplicable draw to these earrings had been explained:

“At first touch you will discover that this is a crystal with a strong heart based energy, that seems to draw you to it… [I] had no idea what its metaphysical properties or healing attributes were, but simply felt an immediate connection with its energy”.

Today is the first day I have worn these beauties and I organised my whole outfit around them. I initially thought to wear a similar hue but then decided: what better colour to offset purple than green? I bought this Jigsaw wool/silk jumper about 6 months ago from the Jigsaw store in Claremont Quarter, reduced from $179 to approximately $57. I love the minty green hue and 3/4 sleeves. I didn’t want to wear it with black so thought these Veronika Maine bright blue crepe pants (bought from the Harbour Town Perth store for $29 instead of $189) would be the perfect foil to the mint.

Whilst I was at my desk, I wrapped this exquisite Donna Karan cashmere/silk shawl over my shoulders. It is from her Fall 2010 collection (the 25th anniversary collection, which you can view here). The shawl is so incredibly light and airy but amazingly warm – perfect for those days in the office where the air-con is a bit chilly.

And of course, there is no better shoe to pair with these pants than my Tabitha Simmons ‘Wink’ blue fish print heels with silver pointed toe (first seen here).

I have received so many compliments about the earrings! They are no longer available from Jan Logan as they are no longer being produced, but I did find the ‘Dolci’ ring on-line (here). I believe that ring would make a very welcome addition to my wardrobe. Your thoughts??!!
