Broome vacay

A few weeks ago, Ben and I were lucky enough to steal a few days away in beautiful Broome. It was our first visit to this coastal community renowned for its pearls, beaches that stretch as far as the eye can see, tropical climate¬†and rich, culturally significant history. We were hoping May, representing the turn of the season, would be cool and balmy but we were subject to 34-37 degree days and sticky nights. That made it a bit difficult to venture into ‘un-air-conditioned’ parts of Broome but we enjoyed the sights and surrounds as best we could ūüôā

I hadn’t anticipated summery dressing after quite a number of weeks of cooler weather and I ended up living in a handful of items (I am absolutely guilty of packing more than I actually wear. Contingencies, right??!!). I didn’t get to snap pictures of more than a couple of outfits as I was far too busy relaxing and enjoying indulgent massages, cool dips in¬†the pool, amazing food and time with my husband.

Day one

Three Dots black dress, Lanvin Blanch Collection pearl detail sandals, Sophie Kyron necklace, L'Wren Scott sunglasses

Easy, light, comfortable cotton dresses are a Broome staple. On our first day, I wore this¬†black jersey pull-on¬†dress by American label Three Dots, a brand that specialises in easy, effortless, jersey basics. I paired it with a pair of leather sandals with crochet and pearl detail by Lanvin, my favourite Sophie Kyron necklace and my requisite black sunglasses (a cats-eye pair by L’Wren Scott, first featured here). I bought all items from eBay (except the necklace): the dress is a current personal favourite as its long wraps sit neatly over the top of a baby belly, its straps are thick enough to conceal bra straps and the fact it is pull-on and wash and wear appeals greatly to me! It¬†retailed for approximately US$150, I paid US$29.

You can pick up Three Dots items at next to nothing on eBay – for those who don’t wish to trawl, shop my similar selections (all on sale!)¬†below:

Day two

Majestic Filatures t-shirt, Sam & Lavi joggers, Aperlai glitter suede sandals, Jason Wu sunglassesMajestic Filatures t-shirt, Sam & Lavi joggers, Aperlai glitter suede sandals, Jason Wu sunglasses

I travelled on the plane in these enormously comfortable¬†Sam & Lavi tea rose joggers (and yes, I did only pay US$9.95 instead of $120 from the Anthropologie sale!). They are made from a soft rayon with a elastic waist, so not only sat beautifully around my growing tummy but were breezy and light for the hot weather days. I paired¬†them with a super-soft viscose knit tee by Majestic Filatures, my favourite Jason Wu cats-eye sunglasses¬†and Aperlai orange suede and glitter sandals (these are their heel counterparts). Aperlai is a French shoe brand, with a style¬†focused on¬†graphic and pure lines, sophistication, elegance and comfort. Their moccasins are some of the most comfortable and stylish I have ever donned. I didn’t pay the $600-odd these sandals would normally command – I nabbed them from eBay about 18 months ago for US$32.

Day three

The Lady and The Sailor reversible midi-dress, 7 For All Mankind denim jacket, Sussan cap, L'Wren Scott sunglasses

I wrote about this The Lady and the Sailor reversible dress here and boy, has¬†it got a workout since I fell pregnant! Are we noticing a trend with the soft, stretchy, pull-on dresses?! On this day, we enjoyed an afternoon on an eco-cruise around Broome’s beautiful bays, so what better to wear than an easy dress, dark shades and seersucker peaked cap? The denim jacket is by 7 For All Mankind, an eBay bargain at only US$29. I love the cropped sleeve and body length – it feels modern yet timeless and somehow goes with everything! The peaked cap is by Sussan, nabbed on sale from $19.95 to $1.95 (yes, that’s correct, I paid $2 for that hat). My various shades of blue had me feeling particularly nautical – the red flush comes courtesy of a 36 degree day.

I am loving these other denim jackets, all on sale in the current Net-a-porter sale (more on that later!) Рclick to shop!

So sorry it has taken so long to share these couple of vacation outfits with you! I hope it inspires you to consider the following should you be escaping Perth for warmer climes this winter:

* Everything I packed did not require ironing. Select items that are easy to roll or fold without getting creased. In my case, denim, viscose jersey, rayon and cotton jersey were my cool-to-wear, creaseless best friends!

* Ensure you bring your darkest tint shades for beach/pool side activities – going from winter to summery weather, you can forget how glary the sun can be!

* Make sure to bring easy layering pieces – a denim jacket is perfect for balmy evenings, whilst wraps made of modal or washed linen are perfect for keeping the sun at bay during the day and a chill away at night.

* Flats or wedges really are best for holidays in the sun Рyou tend to forget how much your feet (unflatteringly) swell in warmer weather, so comfort is key. Bejewelled flats (such as my glitter or pearl adorned options!) truly allow for day to night dressing.

Happy vacationing!!
