What is it with me and sweaters of late?!? I think I’m clinging to the last fragments of cool weather (i.e. I am in denial it is going to be stinking hot, with no reprieve, before I know it)!! I am also just appreciating the effortlessness and versatility of sweaters in a way I don’t think I have ever before.
The style I am currently obsessing over? J.Crew’s ‘Tippi‘. I have written about the Tippi before (here and here) so I am certain you aware of how much I love this item. I currently have two Tippi’s in my eBay watch list (in dark navy and a soft pecan) and I simply cannot decide between the two!*
The Tippi is a J.Crew bestseller for a number of reasons:
1. The shape and style: 3/4 length sleeves, a round neck that elegantly displays the clavicle, a fit that is neither too tight or too blousy;
2. The many and varied colours: From neutrals (navy, slate, black, ivory) to pastels to brights, the Tippi is available in all the colours of the rainbow;
3. The fabric: Made from 100% Merino wool (though it is now also available in Italian cashmere), the choice of fabric for the Tippi is ideal for when the weather starts to cool, for layering in winter or for keeping on hand in an office space inclined to icy air conditioning. The soft, finely knit wool doesn’t pill, is of excellent quality and can be hand-washed or machine washed on delicate; and
4. The enduring classicism: Just like its namesake, 1950s/60s model, screen siren and cool, platinum Hitchcockian blonde Tippi Hedren, the Tippi has a look that withstands time and all fashion fads. The Tippi sweater will look gorgeous with any type of jean, any type of skirt skirt, any type of short and any type of pant that might be having a fashion moment, because not only is it so versatile but it is simply ageless.
Others currently in my wish-list (all available now, on sale, at J.Crew) include one in burnished copper to wear with black pants and a bejewelled necklace, one in leopard print to pair with a neutral hued pencil skirt and stiletto heels and one in bright purple to pop on with crisp white cropped jeans and ballet flats. Click to shop the additions (all on sale at J.Crew and with an extra 30% off using the code GIFTS)!
Have I enticed you yet? I would love to know if you own a Tippi sweater, or if there is a sweater staple from another label you just cannot resist.
Update: I bought the Tippi in soft pecan. I eagerly await its arrival!
