I wrote an earlier post (here) about the style and comfort that wearing Donna Karan affords and thought I would follow it up with a post about another Donna Karan outfit. Donna Karan is indisputably renowned for her magnificent dresses (type “Donna Karan dresses” into Google and you get more than 1.5 million hits) not just because they are impeccably made from beautiful fabrics, but because they actually make a woman feel comfortable, elegant and her best self.
Donna Karan herself just seems to get women and their relationship with clothing. She designs somehow knowing that women want to look feminine (but not girlish), sexy (but not overtly so), comfortable (but never sloppy), elegant (but always accessible) and sophisticated (but not stuffy or snobby). Her dresses in particular are quite Grecian-inspired and incorporate drapery, cut-outs and knot detailing.
The dress I am wearing in this post is a simple pull-on jersey sheath dress in a mottled blue/grey pattern. It is quite a weighty fabric (so hangs beautifully) and features a twist/wrap detail under the bust and over the tummy (to hide a multitude of sins, let me tell you). The lower half of the dress has a single seam that runs down the back in an angular fashion, and it’s these small details that elevate this look into something a bit special. I am wearing the dress with a J.Crew pink cashmere knit cardigan and a pair of Cole Haan black stretch leather boots. All pieces have been purchased from eBay – FYI, the dress cost me $79 and retails for about $1,895.
Tell me, have you got a go-to dress, something that you wear that makes you feel feminine, sexy, comfortable, elegant and sophisticated?
